Arti Arora, CFP | Head Financial Planner

I am not an advocate of gender disparity and as general belief do not believe that women are in any way inferior to men.

This has been highlighted even more in these extremely challenging Corona times. The fact that every member of the family was at home for almost 3 months, women stepped up in more ways than one; from managingdaily household chores like cleaning, cooking, helping children prepare for theironline classes, figuring out rations and groceries, and of course, for those of us that work in offices, managing that too. In effect, the list has been endless. This clearly reflects how innately strong, flexible and determinedwomen are.

I am certain that there were many men too doing a lot ofthe things that made up the list above, and it is not a case of superiority that I am highlighting. My point is different.

When we can manage all the above and more, why then for the most of us, our ‘financial lives’ are something we hardly participate in and leave it for our husbands, fathers or sons to manage?

Why is it that we limit our scope and participation here?

Why do we need to wait for an eventuality and ‘no option left’ kind of a scenario to take note of ourfinances?

Again, I am not generalizing and I do have women clients who deal with these matters on their own but that percentage is miniscule, although I am beginning to see a change here with my male clients now making their ‘better halves’ be a part of the financial planning process that we carry out.

It is important that women take charge of their finances and become truly independent, a streak that does not come from doing a job alone but by taking informed financial decisions to be able to create a life of their own choice and liking.

Tomorrow is uncertain and with that thought in mind, take a step forward towards your financial welfare and prosperity and this encompasses knowing about your family’s financial situation in terms of net worth and cash flow to seeing if you and your loved ones are well provided against any life eventuality, identifying your life goals and planning for them to creating an independent financial portfolio for yourself too.

We at Plutus, support women emancipation in the true meaning of the word.
